Let’s rewind to 2020.

The year the world pressed pause. Countries closed their doors. Flights were grounded. And golf? Well even The Player Championship got cancelled. Let’s just say we weren’t exactly teeing it up in full foursomes.

But even then, in the middle of a pandemic, we didn’t want to let go of The Caveman Classic. We believed in the weekend. In the community. In the chaos. And we were ready to fight for it.

We worked closely with Khun Nut, GM of Phoenix Gold Golf & Country Club, and Khun Kae, their amazing Marketing Director. These two didn’t flinch. No deposit required. No pressure. Just pure partnership. They worked out creative contingency plans with us—so that no matter what came our way, we’d find a way to make it happen.

Then the news hit.

Just days before our event, the Thai government announced a full lockdown. Golf courses closed. Businesses shuttered. Phoenix Gold wasn’t an option anymore—nothing was. Our hearts were smashed. But we refunded every single golfer - in full. No questions asked.

And that’s when the next part of this story hit us right in the feels.

We reached out to Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya, where we’d locked in our party weekend. Told them we were pulling the plug. We didn’t ask for the deposit back—wasn’t even on our mind. We’d signed a contract. We knew the game.

Then Khun Bew, their rock star event manager, sent us a message. She’d seen our email to players about refunds and asked if it was really from us. Once we confirmed, we got a message from Jorge, the General Manager:

“I guess you are going to need this money.”

Less than 24 hours later, the deposit was back in our account.

No contracts. No negotiations. Just heart.

So yeah, every year since then, we’ve gone back to Phoenix Gold and Hard Rock Pattaya.
